Voters in Johnson County overwhelmingly approved the creation of the Community College in 1967. In the fall of 1969 the first classes were offered in leased facilities in Merriam, with the current campus operational and serving students in 1972. Today JCCC serves thousands of students enrolled in traditional undergraduate credit classes or career and certificate programs for job preparedness.
A seven-member Board of Trustees, elected at-large in the county, governs the College.
